Joji Yuasa - Akuryoujima Soundtrack (Original)
Joji Yuasa - Akuryoujima Soundtrack (Original)
Details
'81 Japanese Original Pressing. Joji Yuasa’s soundtrack for Akuryo Island is a uniquely twisted work of Japanese gothic cinematic sound, created for the mystery film based on Seishi Yokomizo’s novel. True to Yuasa’s background as an avant-garde contemporary composer, the soundtrack is filled with an unsettling and highly experimental atmosphere that stands far apart from conventional film music, balancing silence and madness on a razor’s edge.
Dissonant strings, eerie drifting synthesizers, minimalist repeating phrases, and sudden bursts of percussion vividly portray the dark and ritualistic atmosphere of the isolated island setting in the Seto Inland Sea. Rather than relying on direct horror, the music slowly seeps into the listener’s mind, giving the soundtrack a uniquely disturbing presence among Japanese horror and mystery scores.
