'79 Japanese Original Pressing. Shinichi Tanabe’s soundtrack for Byoinzaka no Kubikukuri no Ie (The House of Hanging on Hospital Slope) is one of the jazziest and most sophisticated entries in the Kindaichi detective series — a masterpiece of late-’70s Japanese gothic cinematic jazz. Created for Kon Ichikawa’s final Kindaichi film, the soundtrack paints the movie’s decadent and eerie atmosphere through flowing jazz arrangements, mysterious melodies, and deeply unsettling strings.
The album features melancholic and beautiful pieces like “Theme of Byoinzaka no Kubikukuri no Ie,” fast-moving jazz funk such as “Theme of Angry Pirates,” and eerie floating tracks like “Windbell,” balancing quiet madness with urban sophistication. Jazz, lounge music, cinematic scoring, and library music aesthetics blend together to create the humid atmosphere of classic Showa-era mystery films — like wandering through an old mansion filled with fog and faded photographs.
